I totally agree, the comfort of the viewer (and not drive him to fall asleep with an unchanging poorly-lit image) should be the top priority when you run a video-based website !!
A bit of common sense please, this is a real waste of good ideas that end up not distributed around because of poor media and comms.

I was very much looking forward to watching this talk, however had to discover after only a few minutes that the camera is on the speaker the entire time. with a presentation topic like "photographic journalism" and especially when utilizing images on a screen to support the narrative part I can absolutely not understand why nobody spent a few valuable minutes editing this video??
