Branko Milanović

Formerly a lead research economist at the World Bank, Branko Milanović is one of the world’s leading experts on income inequality and globalization. He is a senior scholar at the Stone Center on Socio-economic Inequality at the City University of New York and is best known for the “Elephant Curve,” a visual representation of how different income groups benefit unevenly from globalization, which has shaped debates on economic development and social justice. Milanović has brought rigorous data analysis and historical insight to some of the most pressing questions of our time.

His new book, The Great Global Transformation, examines the decline of neoliberalism and the rise of a new economic order shaped by nationalism, trade conflicts, and shifting power. Drawing on original research, Milanović examines how Asia’s economic growth is reshaping income patterns and the uncertainties facing the global order.
