Giovanni Capoccia is Professor of Comparative Politics at the University of Oxford, and Fellow in Politics at Corpus Christi College. His research on democratisation and democratic backsliding includes Defending Democracy: Responses to Extremism in Interwar Europe (2005), which won the APSA Prize for Best Book in European Politics. His work has appeared in World Politics, the Journal of Politics, and Comparative Politics, among many others.
