Jelena Vermilion
Jelena Vermilion is a Canadian sex work advocate and Executive Director of the Sex Worker Action Program. An outspoken transgender woman and sex worker, she works as an author, archivist, public speaker and pornographic film performer. Vermilion founded the Sex Worker Media Library Archive at Hamilton Public Library, a collection dedicated to the history, activism and culture of sex workers. She has also appeared in the documentary Translating Beauty to discuss beauty standards, sex work and the challenges faced by transgender women.
In 2023 she published Working It: Sex Workers on the Work of Sex, a collection focused on labour, rights and lived experience in the industry. She also writes the column Beyond Barriers for the magazine Transformation, continuing her advocacy around transgender issues and sex worker organising.
