Pam Cox
Pamela Margaret Cox is the Labour Party Member of Parliament for Colchester, first elected in July 2024. Raised in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, she pursued history studies at Robinson College, Cambridge, and earned a Ph.D. in 1997 with a thesis on the history of girls' delinquency in Britain.
Prior to her parliamentary career, Cox was a professor of social history and criminology at the University of Essex and became a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in 2017. She presented BBC documentary series such as "Shopgirls: The True Story of Life Behind the Counter" and "Servants: The True Story of Life Below Stairs," and contributed to historical and cultural programs for Channel 4 and Channel 5, including "Edwardian Britain in Colour."
Cox joined the Labour Party in 1994 and served as a councillor for New Town and Christ Church from May 2021. She was selected as the Labour candidate for Colchester in November 2022 and, upon her election in 2024, became the first female MP to represent the constituency.
Throughout her career, Cox has authored several works, including "Gender, Justice and Welfare: Bad Girls in Britain, 1900-1950" and "Shopgirls: The True Story of Life Behind the Counter."
