Associate professor of humanities and liberal studies at San Francisco State University. He specializes in animal studies, philosophy of consciousness, history and philosophy of science, and continental philosophy. He is the coauthor of When Animals Dream: The Hidden World of Animal Consciousness (2022) and Chimpanzee Rights: The Philosophers’ Brief (2019).
