Nancy Cartwright is Professor of Philosophy at Durham University and Distinguished Professor at the University of California, San Diego. She is renowned for her work on causation, scientific laws, and the philosophy of physics and economics, and is the author of How the Laws of Physics Lie (1983), Nature's Capacities and Their Measurement (1989), The Dappled World (1999), Philosophy of Social Science (2014) and A Philosopher Looks at Science (2022).
