The Global South and the Rise of China

Join director of the SOAS China Institute, Steve Tsang, as he discusses the central importance of the Global South in China’s global strategy, which Xi Jinping put in place after he consolidated power and unveiled ‘Xi Jinping Thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era’ in 2017. The talk will discuss how the Global South is the central pivot of this strategy, which is about delivering the ‘China Dream of national rejuvenation’ by forging a ‘common destiny for humankind’.  The pathway to fulfilling this goal laid down by Xi is to ‘democratize international relations’, for which securing the support of the Global South is essential.
