Jason Ānanda Josephson Storm is a leading theorist of metamodernism, a movement that seeks to move beyond postmodern scepticism while retaining its critical insights. From the rubble left by Nietzschean and postmodern critiques of truth and reason, he forges a reconstructive path forward for philosophy and critical theory. By challenging some of the foundational categories through which modern societies understand themselves—including religion, science and art—he develops an approach to knowledge that incorporates doubt without abandoning truth and avoids the essentializing categories of the past.

Storm’s award-winning Metamodernism: The Future of Theory has been hailed by reviewers as “a new way of going beyond modernity.” His latest book, The Genealogy of Genealogy: Nietzsche, Foucault, and the Coils of Critical History, turns critical history back on itself and proposes new tools for thinking about historical continuity, change and difference. His earlier work, The Myth of Disenchantment, challenged the conventional story that modernity replaced a magical world with a disenchanted one. He is Chair of Science & Technology Studies and Professor of Religion at Williams College.
